Winter in SW Florida
If you’re coming from up north, winter in Southwest Florida feels less like a season and more like a reward. While most of the country is layering up, scraping windshields, and checking the weather app with mild anxiety, places like Sarasota, Bradenton, and Lakewood Ranch are settling into some of the best weather of the year. Think daytime temperatures in the 70s, cool evenings in the 50s or 60s, low humidity, and just enough of a breeze to make being outside feel effortless. It’s the kind of weather that makes you question why winter ever needed to be cold in the first place.
What really stands out isn’t just the temperature—it’s how much more you actually do. Winter here is peak season for outdoor living. Restaurants are full (especially the ones with patios), golf courses are busy, parks and trails see steady traffic, and beaches feel alive without being overwhelming. You’ll find yourself walking more, sitting outside longer, and saying yes to plans you might normally skip—simply because the weather makes it easy. It’s also when seasonal residents arrive, bringing a noticeable energy to the area that makes everything feel a little more active and social.
Of course, it’s not completely perfect—there are a few “Florida winter realities.” It gets busier, especially in popular areas, and traffic picks up more than locals would prefer. You might also find yourself wearing a jacket in the morning and short sleeves by the afternoon, which somehow still feels confusing the first few times. But those are small trade-offs for what you gain. Winter in Southwest Florida isn’t something you endure—it’s something you look forward to. And once you experience it, it’s hard to imagine going back to anything else.
